Our second grade class begins each day with handwriting, Bible, and prayer time. Our curriculum emphasizes phonics, arithmetic, and spelling, while incorporating history and science as well as other activities. A special part of every day is reading and English.
The children also review long and short vowel sounds, along with special sounds learned throughout Kindergarten and First Grade. These sounds are then used to read new words, sentences, stories and books. Spelling lessons are also a part of the weekly curriculum.
In math, the children review and expand number concepts, counting, telling time, counting money, addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, measurements, grouping, etc.
Science and Social Studies continue to be included in the regular studies.
Each week the children also participate in a variety of activities, including Bible verse memorization, Bible stories, art, Chapel, Physical Education, music and Spanish.
