I believe that the greatest gift we as teachers can give to children is to help them develop a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and learn how to apply His truths to their daily lives. Teaching in a Christian school has allowed me to do this very thing I feel God has called me to do. Deuteronomy 6:5, 6, & 7 states: “You should love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words, which I command, you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” In other words, we as teachers and parents should be teaching the word of God to our children at all times.
After accepting God’s call to teach, I graduated from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock with a degree in Elementary Education in 1970. Since that time I have spent 28 years teaching children in both public and private schools and count it a blessing to have been at DCA since 1997.
When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy home-making and spending time with family and friends. My husband, Don, and I have been married for 38 wonderful years. We have two sons, and a precious daughter in law. Our oldest son, Sean, is a yacht salesman in Pensacola, Florida and enjoys surfing, fishing, and hunting. We have two delightful step grandsons, Kyle and Dylan through Sean's marriage to his sweet wife, Donna.
Our younger son, Brian, is an Episcopal priest in DeLand, Florida. His lovely wife, Susan, is an occupational therapist and home-maker. They have two amazing boys who bring my husband and me loads of happiness. Riley is three and Ezra is one. Susan and Brian constantly open their home to share the love of Christ with everyone they can. They are also building a lasting relationship with their church members at Holy Presence in DeLand.
Don and I are blessed to call Calvary of the Emerald Gulf Coast our church home. We both grew up in Christian homes, and know, without a doubt, that it is extremely important to impart Christian morals and truths to our children and others whom God may place in our path.
I know that we are not supposed to have a spirit of pride, but I must say that I am very proud to be working at Destin Christian Academy. Our future belongs to our children; so we must as teachers, as well as parents, do our best to share the love of Christ to them as often as we can. I have always said, “Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things (such as academics) shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
I praise my Lord and Savior for this awesome opportunity He has given me to teach. It is my joy and my prayer that my fifth graders will rise up to be bold for Him throughout their lives.
