The day begins with prayer, because we know that we must rely upon our Lord for clear direction and as our ultimate teacher.
The Bob Jones curriculum is used in the following subjects: Bible, Language, Spelling, Reading, Science, and United States History. However, the ABeka curriculum is used in Mathematics.
In Bible, the Old Testament is studied in depth, as well as the New Testament up through Christ's resurrection. An archaeological dig within the classroom has been developed as a hands-on review of what the students have learned .
Each week, in Bible, the students are responsible for memorizing a specific Bible verse in which they are tested on every Friday. Sword drills are also a part of the Friday activities.
In Math, fractions, the metric system, the four operations, decimals, and the basics of geometry are all a part of the curriculum.
In History, the main topics deal with US history during the 1900's up until the present time.
Science is very hands-on with many activities for the class to enjoy as reinforcement. A highlight in the 5th grade science curriculum is the study of space. The class builds rockets and takes an imaginary trip through space by turning the classroom into "Space Shuttle America" for the day.
In English, the students are required to improve their writing skills through research, book reports, and creative writing assignments.
Each week, the fifth graders also enjoy physical education, Spanish, alternating nine weeks of art and music, and library time.
Being a 5th grader at Destin Christian Academy is a fantastic adventure in the student's academic growth, as well as their spiritual growth. In 5th grade, our main goal will always be to become more like Jesus as we develop and grow in Him.

Due to low enrollment during this, 2008-2009, school year
DCA is unable to sustain our regular Fifth Grade class.
Mrs. Garrison has graciously moved to Fourth Grade for the year,
but will happily be back in Fifth Grade for the 2009-2010 school year.
