Welcome to Destin Christian Academy. My Name is Susan Bell and I teach Kindergarten. I am excited as each new school year brings new little faces to love, and hearts and minds to mold. I know that it will be a wonderful and productive year as long as we remember to follow this little equation for proper Christian education...

I have been teaching Kindergarten for twenty years, seventeen of which have been here at First Baptist. I love children and enjoy sharing new experiences with them. I expect a lot from my students (high expectations = a higher quality of effort).
I expect them to always do their best, no matter the task, to treat others with love and respect, to pay attention and listen during learning times, and to be able to come to me no matter what. It is important for them to know and understand that I love them, and that they can count on me to be there for them on good days and bad days. I also try to let my students know what they can expect from me on a daily basis. I remind my students that I am human, too. I make mistakes just like they do. I am a firm believer that children, especially at this age, need to have a close relationship with their teacher. In order for students to grow and thrive throughout their educational process, they must first feel safe in that environment and loved by the classroom teacher. Hugs and cuddles are given as needed or requested.
I was born and raised in south Alabama by Christian parents and Grandparents. I, along with my parents and two siblings, attended a Baptist church, which was next door to my home. At the age of eleven, I realized I needed Christ in my life. My pastor came to visit me and I accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior right there on our back door step. I was baptized a couple of weeks later, on Easter Sunday.
As I continued to grow in my walk with the Lord, I tried to serve God in various ways. I served as a summer missionary for three summers, as a summer youth director for two summers, and I now serve as a teacher here at Destin Christian Academy. I have taught here since August 1991, and have watched our school grow from First Baptist Child Development Center (ages six weeks to kindergarten) to it's own entity - First Baptist Academy, to the school we are today - Destin Christian Academy. What an experience! It has been a privilege and an honor to be a part of such an awesome growth. God is good and He is a God of mighty things.
In the summer of 1990, I met and fell in love with Dwayne, the man that I feel God has placed here for me. We have been married for seventeen and one half years and now have two wonderful children. They are both beautiful blessings on loan to us from God. He has been very good to our family and we are eternally thankful for His grace and mercy. I know that we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). Therefore, I know that this will be a great year filled with lots of learning and fun.
As long as we work together we cannot fail; we can only soar - teaching our children to fly in the process.
